Despite having heard her praises sung for years by various other authors, this is the first book by Ms. Winterson I've read, and while it was not what I was expecting, it did not disappoint. Each of the entries in the book is less plot or story than exquisitely rendered sensations of time, place /5(30).

The World and Other Places is Winterson’s first collection, and I was incredibly interested to see how the genre suited her writing style. There are a lot of different styles at play here; we have fairytale-esque shorts, those told from the perspective of men, stories set within imagined vistas, and real world slices of life to name but a few/5.

The World and Other Places is a collection of short stories by Jeanette Winterson O.B.E in the style of postmodernism. Some of the contained short stories have been previously published in well known publications, such as The New son, like other postmodernists, plays with her words so they carry multiple layers and interpretation.

Astringently playful stories, written over 12 years, by the Whitbread Award—winning British novelist (Gut Symmetries,etc.). Though this first collection is brief, its author’s talent isn’t.

Winterson’s appetite for social criticism mingles confidently with her lyrical instinct to give us savagely rhythmic portraits of people lost in lives they’d much rather not have to : Jeanette Winterson.

Around the World in Eighty Days, travel adventure novel by French author Jules Verne, published serially in and in book form in Telling the story of the unflappable Phileas Fogg’s trip around the world to win a bet, it was the most widely popular of the Voyages extraordinaires series of novels.

From the voluptuous The Poetics of Sex, so flush with earthy imagery and erotically charged word-play that the fever of desire rises from the page in an uncomfortable steam, to the frigidity of the Stepford-Wife-like Newton, Winterson spins us around a breathless, off-centre world.
